Bathroom Remodel Tip #1

BATHROOM BUDGET

If your bathroom looks dated and you are thinking to remodel your shower only, think about remodeling the whole bathroom. You would pay less if you do it all at one time.
Try to find deals on your materials like tile, fixtures and mirrors. Your bathroom contractor should be able to refer you to the right places to keep the cost of the project at a reasonable price.
By saving on different elements on your bathroom remodel, you will be able to do more.
Another important part of budgeting a bathroom remodel is trying to price out everything ahead of the start date so you would know how much you are spending. That being said some projects may need some hidden repairs when the bathroom is demolished therefore it is wise to at least consider a budget for those situations (Approximately 5%-10% is most cases)
Bottom line don't spend a lot on one section of your bathroom and leave the rest untouched. With the right material selection you maybe able to do it all.

Bathroom Remodel Tip #2:

SMART BATHROOM DESIGN

Deco tile like Mosaic or glass tile could be costly average cost is about $7.00 per square foot, but you don't need a lot of it to add some nice design to the bathroom. Plus most mosaic or glass tiles come as 12"x12" sheet that can be cut in half for a nice 6" border so for example a dozen sheets of glass tile should be enough to to a tub/shower area and yet make a big impact in how your remodeled bathroom is going to look.

Bathroom Remodel Tip#3:

Try to keep the layout of your bathroom the same. Moving walls, tearing out ceiling or moving shower  or vanity location will increase the cost significantly. So if you have a small budget for your bathroom remodel, avoid moving things in your bathroom.

Bathroom Remodel Tip#4

GRANITE COUNTERTOPS

When it comes to granite countertops most home owners think about a big expense. Not necessarily true. Don't be afraid to ask your bathroom remodeler if he can get you shop pieces for your small bathroom vanity to save you some money. Some bathroom contractors have pieces left over from other jobs that can be used at a fraction of the price for your bathroom vanity.

Bathroom Remodel Tip#5

QUALITY MATTERS

Ask your bathroom remodeler what kind of construction material is he using for example is he using hardibacker in the wet areas? Is he using any waterproofing in the shower area? If you are replacing the vanities, what type of wood is he using to build your cabinets. Or is he replacing damaged wood under your old tile? Is the painter taking the wallpaper down or texturing over the existing wall paper (A huge mistake). Most qualified bathroom remodelers should take all the necessary steps to ensure quality of a bathroom remodeling project.

Bathroom Remodel Tip#6

TIMELINE AND SCHEDULING

Always ask how long the remodeling project will take. The answer could vary base on the scope of work but at least you get an idea what to expect. You don't want unnecessary gap between the project sequences.

Bathroom Remodel Tip #7

KEEP THE BATHROOM VANITIES

If you have a tight budget for your bathroom remodel project, you can keep the existing vanities and only change the  countertop. In many cases the vanities can be given a complete face lift with new paint or stain and a set of nice hardware. In some other cases the doors and the hinges can be replaced. Ask your contractor if that is an option when he is visiting your house for an estimate.
